How to manage claims with Cargosnap

Bruna Ribeiro • Jul 18, 2022

Do you remember the last time you had to deal with cargo claims? Declaring losses or damages from shipping lines or logistic companies is overwhelming. And for the majority of cases we are only drawn to action when our own pocket is affected.

In this post, you'll read why you might want to use CargoSnap in your operations and how managing damages and claims can be easier than you think.

How your business is impacted when damage occurs

In addition to the irretrievable value of a claim that cannot be covered by insurance or salvaged, there may be other factors that can affect your business when your customers' products are damaged.

Work performance

Depending on the preparation, volume, scale, and region, a claim takes 2 to 6 hours to file - but it can often take much longer. There is also the handling and storage of products while finding the underlying cause of the issue and assessing fault.

The last thing anyone wants is to have to spend hours gathering data for a claim, there is more important work to be done.

Time

Whoever damaged your Cargo should be the party to pay for the damage. The more you delay, the less likely you will get paid.

The faster you act and collect damage evidence, the faster you get your claim compensation. As well as having more time to protect the time bar (statutory time limit for enforcing a cargo claim through legal proceedings.

Customer satisfaction

You can do everything right and still have your customer's product damaged. It shouldn't happen, but it can and does. Notifying your customers with visual evidence of how their goods are being handled not only ensures that you provide a premium service but also, it's not your fault when damage occurs.

What should you actually be doing instead of getting stuck on claims?

Getting new business, filling orders, or improving operational processes? Take your pick; they are all better than determining who put that dent in your bottom line. Prevention is the best remedy for avoiding damage.

You can avoid damage; however, you cannot eliminate all of them as it's out of your control when working with different parties. Once it does occur, you should collect as much visual data and information as possible to start your claim process.
