Logistics Service Provider
How Maersk drives compliance in the AEO Program with Cargosnap
Company description
Maersk is one of the world’s leading integrated logistics providers, operating terminals, warehouses, and depots throughout Brazil, including strategic locations such as Itapoá, Araquari (inside BMW’s plant), Paranaguá, Itajaí, and Rio Grande.
Beyond its carrier operations, Maersk has evolved into a full logistics operator, offering services like receiving, storage, loading, inventory management, consolidation, deconsolidation, and transportation.
Its southern Brazil operations serve major clients including BMW, Guararapes, Eliane, Roga, Metalcorp, Nidec, Eldorado, and Yara, companies that rely on Maersk for efficiency, visibility, and compliance.
A visibility gap between terminals & customers
As Maersk expanded its logistics services, new challenges emerged, especially in communication, visibility, and compliance across its terminals. Operational photos were taken manually, stored on cameras, and shared via email or memory cards, creating bottlenecks between terminals and clients. Fernanda Pitz, Terminal Manager at Maersk Itapoá and Araquari recalls:
“We couldn’t share in real time the operational follow-up customers needed. The lack of trust and visibility made me personally look for a solution.”
The issue became even more critical after onboarding BMW, which required strict AEO (Authorized Economic Operator) compliance flows — including 7-point container and 17-point truck checklists — all of which needed to be standardized and traceable.
Providing clients with immediate access to digital proof
Through a referral, Fernanda and her team discovered Cargosnap — a digital inspection and compliance platform designed for logistics operators. Cargosnap enabled Maersk to replace manual, paper-based processes with a fully digital workflow that integrates photos, checklists, and operational data directly into each shipment. Fernanda highlights:
“It’s very easy to use. I put it in the hands of our operational teams. They run it on their phones, and the checks became more reliable and available in real time.”
The implementation began in Itapoá and Araquari terminals, supporting OEA compliance and digital reporting for BMW.
Clients could instantly access their inspection data and reports through the cloud simply by searching a container number, ensuring transparency and traceability throughout the process.
“We presented Cargosnap to BMW — they loved that it eliminated paper entirely,” Fernanda explains.
“Now everything is digital, with on-demand access and complete visibility.”
From a test to an operational routine in days
Cargosnap began with a 14-day Proof of Concept (PoC) at Maersk’s terminals in Itapoá and Araquari. Within days, the teams validated the solution in real operations — confirming that the app worked seamlessly in the field.
Operators were able to onboard quickly and independently. After just one hour of training, Maersk’s frontline staff were already creating and customizing their own inspection flows. Proving how intuitive the system was.
“The test was fundamental for us to see that the tool really worked in our operations,” explains Fernanda Pitz.
“From there, we quickly scaled it to other depots because it simply works. And it works well.”
The Mobile app's simplicity made it ideal for operators, while its flexibility allowed managers like Paulo Cesar Gonçalves Camargo, Operations Supervisor, to tailor checklists and workflows in minutes.
“A client requested a new workflow. In ten minutes, I built and customized it,” says Paulo.
“Before, I had to download and sort photos manually every day. Now everything’s automated and standardized.”
Following the success of the PoC, Cargosnap was rapidly adopted across Itajaí, Paranaguá, and other depots in Brazil, with plans to expand globally within Maersk’s network.
Turning compliance into customer trust
After the proof of concept, Maersk quickly scaled Cargosnap across its Brazilian operations, driven by strong operational results and enthusiastic client feedback.
“The test was essential for us to see how well the tool fit our operations,” says Fernanda. “Once we saw the results, we rolled it out to other depots because it simply works. And works well.”
Customers immediately noticed the difference.
“A Metalcorp client told us a simple PDF report changed her view of our operations,” Fernanda adds.
